Hyderabad: Congress legislator T. Jaya Prakash Reddy has requested Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to concentrate to solve the traffic problem in the capital city. Even a brief spell of rain was causing the people of the city, particularly in the IT corridor, immense problems.

Employees were taking five to six hours to reach home after work, he said. Motorists stuck in traffic jams were not even able to give way to ambulances

Mr Reddy, who is popularly known as Jagga Reddy, told mediapersons that Mr Rao should hold a review meeting on this issue. He said Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy as Chief Minister had build the Outer Ring Road and started the Metro Rail project to ease the traffic problem.

With the number of vehicles increasing, Mr Rao should think of alternatives. About 3 lakh people were taking Metro Rail but the traffic was not reducing.

He said that the GHMC was asking people not to move out during the rains, but asked how they would know about the rain in advance.

Officials should identify the roads prone to  traffic jams during the rain, and take steps to tackle the problem. The government should recruit more police personnel to overcome any staff shortage, Mr Reddy said.
